Tate was exploring how digital tools could make its galleries more accessible. Through research and collaboration with stakeholders, we uncovered a gap: while audio guides are common, few museums were using sound to create emotional, intuitive connections with art.
I designed Story Player as a lightweight, mobile-first platform that offers audio storytelling through personal, reflective voices instead of curatorial texts. It invites users to explore at their own pace, creating moments of serendipity rather than following a fixed path.
Originally piloted in one gallery, Story Player has since featured in +10 exhibitions across all four Tate sites. It now serves as both a new layer of visitor engagement and a growing digital revenue stream.
